The Department of Engineering Services is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure within Lusangazi District. It ensures the provision of safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure that supports social and economic development.
The department plays a key role in guiding the physical development of the district through technical expertise and adherence to engineering standards, building regulations, and national guidelines. Its work supports improved mobility, access to public services, and a well-planned urban and rural environment.
To effectively deliver its mandate, the Department of Engineering Services operates through several specialized units.
The Civil Works Unit oversees the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, culverts, bus shelters, and public buildings. It ensures quality assurance, supervises contractors, and conducts routine inspections to maintain infrastructure standards.
The Water and Sanitation Unit coordinates water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and related public health infrastructure. It supports borehole development, water reticulation, drainage improvement, and sanitation projects in communities, markets, and public institutions.
The Mechanical and Workshop Unit is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Council vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, and tools. It ensures that graders, tractors, trucks, and utility vehicles are in good working condition to support engineering and district operations.
This unit manages street lighting installations, electrical works, and the maintenance of public lighting systems. It ensures that communities, trading areas, and public spaces are well-lit to promote safety and support night-time economic activity.
The Survey Unit provides surveying services for infrastructural projects, including land measurements, mapping, and layout preparations. It supports physical planning by supplying accurate technical data for roads, construction sites, and development boundaries.
