On Sunday, 22nd March 2026, the Lusangazi District Health Office successfully conducted a community health outreach aimed at addressing the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The outreach was carried out across three church congregations: The Reformed Church in Zambia – Nyamphande, Roman Catholic Church – Satellite 18, and Roman Catholic Church – Kasangazi.
The initiative focused on the three key pillars of NCD prevention: screening, physical assessment, and health education. A total of 56 individuals were screened for diabetes, enabling early detection and appropriate referrals. In addition, 156 congregants underwent physical assessments, including weight and height measurements to determine Body Mass Index (BMI), an important indicator for obesity-related health risks.
Furthermore, 456 church members benefited from comprehensive health education sessions on NCDs, equipping them with vital knowledge on prevention, healthy lifestyles, and early intervention.
This outreach highlights the importance of bringing health services closer to the community by leveraging trusted spaces such as churches. The initiative not only strengthened community engagement but also promoted awareness and proactive health-seeking behavior among residents.
